My skirt I never wear!

If you have seen my youtube video's you will have seen this skirt before.
It has been sitting in my cardboard ever since I made it.  Every time I put it on I couldn't find anything to match it!
So it is time for a change.  I took the flowers off today and removed the below lace at the bottom.
As there was a lot of detail in this skirt with stripped pipping and stripped lining, I decided to extend the lining a bit longer than the outside fabric of the skirt.
Now we have a grey skirt with a hit of stripped fabric at the hem and pockets.
Check out the photo below and let me know your thoughts!
Remember go through your cardboard regularly and make sure you wear everything in it!!  If you don't either alter it to make sure you do wear if or give it to a better home!
All of this was done by hand!!

Shirring fabric

Hay guys!
I am making a funky little fancy dress, for a friend at the moment and decided we need the top "Shirred".  It is an easy finish (no zip) and super easy to wear!!!
I can't show you the finished dress yet but I can show you the "Shirring part".  (We will have photos of the dress after this Thursday which is the event date).

So to start you need Shirring elastic, an empty bobbin, matching thread, and a good pair of clippers.
Thread the shirring elastic on to the empty bobbin (the usual way you thread a bobbin).
Work out how many rows of shirring your want for your garment and measure them out.  I usually do each line 1cm apart.
In this case I had to allow a little more because there is a hole pattern on the fabric I am currently using.

Once your set begin you stitches (make sure you check your machine tension first) and your lines must be perfectly straight!!!

Below is the final product:
Let me know your thoughts and send me samples of your shirring!

Value the golden oldies

It maybe an old pattern, sewing machine or ruler!
They are all special so don't through them away!  Find a good home for them.
If you are not that keen of vintage retro items other people are so please don't through them out!
I recently went to may grandfathers house (who live in another state to me) and got to play with all my  nanna's golden oldies.

Checked Skirt for one of my big sisters

Hay guy's,
You will remember my checked skirtly recently made.
The final product is below. I wanted to make it a little different so used a cross grain for the waist band.
Remember to hand stitch in the zip first if you are having problems matching up the seams.  Then put it through the sewing machine.

Grandfathers shirt

Has anyone ever sewing a button on a shirt?

You often find that the button is too close to the fabric which makes it very had to open and close the button.
You can create a shank if you know how or another easy way is to slip a match between the button and the fabric.  Stitch the button on and then pull the match out!
Hope you find this helpful! :)

Dress and Skirt

Hi Guys,

Just catching up from where we left off.
Skirt
So the skirt has been fitted and ready to be finish this weekend.
Dress
A new dress was created and was also fitted.  You will see both after this weekends sewing season.

"The Wedding Dress"
For those of you who don't know I'm getting married.  So I decided to do what a lot of my clients do and get something made from China.   (Bad luck to make your own)
As per usual not exactly what I had asked for but will be fitting and altering this weekend.
Sorry no photo's of this one until after the big day.  You will have to wait! :)

The "Sewing Book" that I have been talking about forever is still due to come out this weekend but we have had another hold up trying to get it online with Amazon.  The Kindle version is proving challenging and we have someone in the states looking into this right now!
Fingers crossed for a release tomorrow!

I will let you know if I am successful!
