An oldie but a goodie and you just can't part with

Recently a friend of mine went through her wardrobe.  She found a number of items that she just doesn't wear anymore but couldn't part with them and still loves the fabric!

If your garments are still in a good condition it doesn't take much to change a garment slightly to make it a bit more modern and fresh.

This skirt is your typical mid to late 2000's skirt.  It is a cute Aline with a great printed fabric.  The original designer even went to the trouble of beading some of the flower prints.
There was a skinny 1.5cm velvet band at the top as well that sat in the middle of the white band at the top.  Lets see how it comes up...

This skirt is approximately 9 years old and I will be taking it to my girl friends this Saturday.  Let's see how we style it up 9 years later.

Fashion doesn't have to be expensive you just need to a little imagination!  (Let's face it I really didn't do that much to this skirt!)

Lost in Berlin Sewing!

I have finally found my newest member of the family.  

She goes by the name Fraulein Helga and is a beautiful second hand 

German sewing machine.

Just about to start playing with her!

Remember there is no need to buy brand new all the time.  A machine that has been previously love is often a much better machine and more affordable. (But you must shop wisely)! 

New Indian Silk lining for my great Oroton Handbag

Today on a raining Sewing Club Sunday we were very productive!

Check out the new lining I made to add another pocket (with a zip) a key ring hook and pen holders.
I am really excited with the way it came up.

Cute little Coasters

Good Morning!
Over the weekend in between classes I decided to make some thing with my left over fabric bits and during the week I had a really fun student who inspired me to make some cute little coasters.
So I went through my fabric box to see what I could find.

I have used cotton drill as my base and topped it with a cute flower pattern.
This was the end product.
I hope you enjoy going though your fabric box and pick out some nice pieces.  They make great presents!

Denim Jean alterations

A lot of people have asked me recently about how to take up their jeans but still make sure the hem looks the same as when they come from a shop.
I will have a more detailed "You Tube" video coming out shortly but just to give you an idea this is a simpler version.

Don't forget to overlock the edges.

Funky Little Shired Dress

Hi Guys,

Do you remember the shired dress I made for a friend.
Well to show you how it turned out please check out the picture below.

P.S: It was part of a competition and she tied for first! 

My skirt I never wear!

If you have seen my youtube video's you will have seen this skirt before.
It has been sitting in my cardboard ever since I made it.  Every time I put it on I couldn't find anything to match it!
So it is time for a change.  I took the flowers off today and removed the below lace at the bottom.
As there was a lot of detail in this skirt with stripped pipping and stripped lining, I decided to extend the lining a bit longer than the outside fabric of the skirt.
Now we have a grey skirt with a hit of stripped fabric at the hem and pockets.

Remember go through your cardboard regularly and make sure you wear everything in it!!  If you don't either alter it to make sure you do wear if or give it to a better home!
All of this was done by hand!!
