New Skirt for a Pretty little Lady!

So I have to share this cute little skirt for a pretty little lady!
To cut a long story short this pretty little lady gave me a pair of boots that she wasn't using anymore.  In return I asked her what she wanted me to make her and she said a circle wrap skirt.
I haven't made one is so long I had too look up my notes (thankfully I put them on this blog).

So mean while I was on my way to the fabric shop and she asked me for something pretty and something purple... This is what I came up with.  I think as you can see by her smile I might have chosen the right fabric!

Sewing in Sydney

So being back in Sydney now it is officially three months that we have been back already.
Sewing Classes are now starting to fill up and my wardrobe is starting to look Australian again (Summer Clothing). Remember the beginners is the second Saturday every month.
Before we talk any sewing we have to talk about Lady Gaga last week at the Oscars, her gown was stunning!!! I can't work out what I was mesmerised by more, the gown, the singing, Lady Gaga looking so beautiful and or being sent back to my childhood for the length of her performance.
So I have played her over and over again on Youtube this week trying work out what it is that makes me so happy to see the performance but to top it of Foxtel in Australia did a wonderful thing and put the actual Sound of Music film on TV last night as well...
So now I am climbing every mountains and following every dreams.
If you missed it here is the link Lady Gaga at the Oscars

Back to sewing, so I have been building a range of skirts to alternate using two different patterns and many different fabrics.
The first two fuller skirts are very easy in fact the one withe buttons on the the waist band doesn't even have a zip in it.  I have just added a pleat so it extends open.

For more details about this you can learn how to create one of these skirts in my classes and I give you the patterns to take home and make over and over again!

The tighter fitting skirts you can see a bit of detailing done in the pocketing and waistband to create a point of difference.

That's it from me tonight, if you find text errors I'm sorry, but as you know I am a sewer first than a blogger!

Sydney Wedding Dress Alterations

Well it is that time of year I guess.  Sorry I have been a little slow with the blog post's lately due to a large amount of work coming in.
It is the season for wedding dress alterations in Sydney, so they are coming in thick and fast.
You should never complain about business but I will just this once!  I didn't have time to finish anything I have started making for myself.  So I got my Nanna in and she happily sewed some buttons on my new skirt for me!
Got to love Nanna!  It was such a treat to have her in my sewing studio with me!!!  I wish we could do it more often (I would be happy just for the company, don't worry I wouldn't ask Nanna to sew for me all the time just to bring some of her yummy macaroons for tea break)!
And in case your wondering, the skirt was perfect!

Wedding Gowns and Wedding Gown Alterations

Whenever the word “wedding” is mentioned, prices go through the roof!  Perhaps this is an attempt to play on the emotions of people who are already somewhat vulnerable.

The choice of material can actually have a huge effect on price – in most cases it can effectively halve the cost of the dress, without detracting in any way from the appearance on the day.  The effectiveness of the dress depends far more on design and stitching than it does on choice of material.

Often French laces are pushed over a quality Asian lace.  While French laces are known for their quality and excellence an Asian lace is still extremely competitive these days.

If your interested to chat to us about creating your gown or you have something special to wear already but it needs a bit of work we would love to hear from you.

Have you seen what they do at Cocktail Revolution?

I have to say I am pretty excited here tonight, I have been told by the lovely people at Cocktail Revolution that they have shared one of my Berlin influenced garments on there site for people to have their say.

Cocktail Revolution is Australia's only national Street style magazine reflecting your style, fashion, beauty, diversity, photos and opinions!

I personally love them as they show what real people are doing and real people have a say in what looks good.
You don't need me to tell you that they're good, with over 20, 000 followers they are obviously doing something right!
Have a look and don't be frightened to enter their competition!

Knitted Blue Dress = Knitted Blue Cardigan with a Grey Marl Trim

This is a cute little blue dress that a friend gave to me as they were throwing things out!
I did wear it but decided it was a bit clingy for me.  I really loved the colour and the softness of the knit!

So I thought maybe a cute cardigan...

Cutting it straight down the middle I opened it, added a bind and then was going for a belt in the middle.
Half way through my project I decided to make use of the cowl neckline rather than get rid of it (sorry it is not a great photo on the left so not easy to see).
After I decided to use the neckline I added the tie/belt I made to the top to create an Audrey Hepburn neckline.

Here are the steps
I have followed the knit line
(be careful not to pull to much when you do this)
Quickly had your bind and pin it into place
so it doesn't stretch
Ready for your machine.
I machined one side of the bind.
And hand stitch the other side.

My belt that turned in to a neckline tie.

And the finished product...

Note: To make sure the neckline sit properly I have added a hook and bar on both sides.
The hook and bars will now take any pressure or strain and the tie will look good.

Pretty phone holder for charging your device!

So there is a lot on the net about how to make a phone holder when when you are charging you phone.

Here is my version:
Made from an empty shampoo bottle.  I cut it straight in half without thinking about it and just realised that my phone is quite bit.
So I already needed to think up something more creative if I didn't want to waste this empty bottle (it was also the only empty bottle I had in the house).

I dug though my fabric and trims box to find I had ribbon, imitation leather and also some left over lace from my wedding dress.

I'm not going to go though how to do it because there is loads of info on pinterest/Facebook or just google it.  (If all else fails just leave me a msg and I will share one of the links).

You can see here I could have done this a little better, the back seam line should be hidden behind the ribbon. ( I was just having one of those days)

It be really honest I am surprised by how well my mistake turning into a really cute girly phone holder.
It is functional and cute!
